Joel Klatt not buying into Alabama football’s demise: ‘They’re not going anywhere’

Alabama’s chances of making the 2022 College Football Playoff are all but over following its loss to LSU last weekend.

Afterward, questions surrounding the program’s dominance and placement in college football arouse with some believing that its run at the top of the sport had begun to close.

But Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt isn’t quite buying into that notion. In fact, Klatt said during the most recent episode of his podcast “The Joel Klatt Show” that the Crimson Tide isn’t going anywhere.

“I think Alabama’s going to be just fine,” Klatt said. “Just fine. Look what it just took to beat Alabama. Now you can say ‘it’s been twice,’ yeah I get it. Look at the three road environments it took to threaten Alabama this year. One hundred and five thousand attended the game in Austin, Texas. Alabama still won. One hundred and one thousand attended the game at Tennessee and they needed a kick to go over the crossbar by a foot after Bama missed a kick, in order to get a win. One hundred and two thousand attend the game in Death Valley on Saturday night and they need a two-point conversion attempt in the first overtime to beat Alabama.

“Folks, Alabama’s gonna be OK. Alabama is still Alabama. It takes unbelievable venues and great performances from elite teams that have to scratch by, by a play of a kick here or there in order to beat them. They’re gonna be OK.”

Klatt, who is typically known as an Alabama and SEC critic, went on to highlight the Crimson Tide’s lack of help on offense as evidence that the Crimson Tide can still improve in the future. But he refuses to doubt the drive of head coach Nick Saban to address the areas of concern in the future.

“This isn’t even a great Alabama team,” Klatt said. “They don’t have the wide receivers that they’ve had, nor will have. I don’t think their offensive line is quite what their offensive line has been or will be in the future.

“You think Nick Saban is not going to recruit at the level necessary to rebuild those two areas of his football team? You’re out of your mind. You’re out of your mind. Alabama’s gonna be just fine. The average of those three attendances is 103,000 by the way. So they’re 1-2 in those three road environments. Last year guess what it took to beat Alabama, 100,000 in College Station and a kick that just went through the upright. And then it took Georgia, a historically great defense in a national championship game environment. Like, it’s still not easy to beat Alabama folks.

“They’re not going anywhere.”
