Nick Saban’s first national championship quarterback at the University of Alabama is the latest former player to highlight his biggest concern with the Crimson Tide after the loss to LSU.

Greg McElroy was Alabama’s starting signal-caller on its 2009 BCS National Championship team. The Tide won with a ferocious defense and a powerful rushing attack. McElroy made big plays, but the guys around him emerged and had success. He’s had issues with Alabama all season as an analyst for ESPN’s SEC Network. McElroy sees the Tide not looking how it did in the past.

Several national media pundits, including Paul Finebaum, blame the coordinators. They are also holding Saban’s feet to the fire for hanging onto Bill O’Brien and Pete Golding. McElroy said ‘there are a lot of guys on the roster and coaching staff that have nothing to do with the foundation being created at Alabama.’ The Tide has lost numerous coaches that assisted Saban with his championships, including Jim McElwain, Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, Michael Locksley, Brian Daboll, Mario Cristobal, Jeff Stoutland, Bobby Williams, Burton Burns, Kirby Smart, Jeremy Pruitt, Mel Tucker, Derrick Ansley, Bo Davis, and many more.

They knew what it took to be champions, but Alabama has not had an identity in two years.

McElroy is very concerned, especially with the Tide facing Ole Miss this weekend. Kiffin has an offense that will exploit Pete Golding’s defense, and the Rebels have a running game too. Alabama wants to finish strong, but it needs to make changes upon the end of the season.
