4-Star QB Dylan Lonergan ready to prove what he can do at Alabama

Dylan Lonergan is ready to make it official with Alabama football by signing a National Letter of Intent Wednesday.

Lonergan is one of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 quarterback pledges. He is a product of Brookwood High School in Georgia, and he garners a four-star rating from most recruiting sites.

The Tide beat out Stanford, South Carolina and others to secure Lonergan’s commitment after they picked up a commitment from four-star quarterback, Eli Holstein. Lonergan said he was not high on Alabama leading into his official visit in June due to the fact they had Holstein on board. Alabama’s coaches were able to change his mind during his official visit.

“I wasn’t really considering them too much before that, but just after I did that, just the attention to detail they take with everything and just how well I connected with all the coaches. It really set them apart. Before the OV that (Eli Holstein’s commitment) was really just the main reason why I was not really considering it too much. But what they kept saying about it was just that their quarterback room is so small and that since Bryce is probably going to leave this year, it’ll be even smaller. So, it is just going to be like any other quarterback room I would step into. So, that is really what made me not worry about it too much anymore.”

Lonergan is currently trying to decide if he will enroll early or play baseball at his high school during the spring semester, which would force him to wait until the summer to enroll. He plans to play both baseball and football at Alabama.

The Georgia native said he is eager to work himself into the rotation and prove to doubters Alabama football is still the standard.

“I really just want to try to win the job as soon as possible and then just prove all those people wrong,” Lonergan said. “And just show them that Alabama is where it’s always been.”

The Alabama commit rewrote the record books at Brookwood high school during his time as its signal caller. He finished his career with 9,717 total yards, 100 total touchdowns and 75 passing touchdowns. Lonergan said he likes to watch Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen get after it.

“I definitely love watching some Josh Allen, some Aaron Rodgers, just how quick they get the ball out and just the plays that Josh Allen can make with his legs and everything like that.”
