Alabama football is retooling its coaching staff for another national championship run.
Pete Golding left the Crimson Tide on Friday to become the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss.

Glenn Schumann, a native Georgian, is the top target to replace Golding. Schumann, 32, serves as a co-defensive coordinator on Kirby Smart’s staff and has captured back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championships. Aaron Murray, a former Georgia quarterback, said he heard from a lot of his Alabama friends about Schumann returning to the Tide. He said Georgia is “king” with the Tide trying to poach Schumann from the Bulldogs. Schumman’s coaching career started under Nick Saban.

He came to the Crimson Tide in 2008 as a graduate assistant. Schumann earned his degree from the University of Alabama and observed Saban’s process from 2008-14. He watched three BCS National Championship teams in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
Schumann became the director of football operations in 2015 for Alabama and witnessed a fourth national title.
He helped start Alabama’s run of national championships, and now has a chance to come back.
