Saraland’s sophomore quarterback, KJ Lacey is reaping the benefits of leading the Saraland Spartans to a class 6A State Championship with his recruitment in full swing.
Lacey is a sophomore at Saraland High School in Alabama. He currently holds 14 D1 offers after picking up an offer from Texas A&M Thursday. It is no surprise Lacey is attracting this much attention after watching the show Saraland’s offense put on during the 2022 football season en route to a 14-1 record and a state title.
The 2025 quarterback feels leading his team to victory is just one of his many strengths.
“I am accurate,” said Lacey. “I got a big arm, can read defenses and lead my team to wins, not settling for losses. We want to win big.”
Multiple SEC schools have offered Lacey, including Auburn, who recently hosted him.
“My first real visit was last weekend when I went up there,” Lacey said. “I met all the coaches that just came, the new staff and everything like that. They showed me around the facilities then we hopped in uniform and took some pictures.”
Alabama football has hosted Lacey a few times. His teammate and electric 2025 wide receiver, Ryan Williams is verbally committed to the Crimson Tide. Lacey said he is enjoying growing his relationship with the Tide’s staff.
“When I go up there, I talk to all the coaches,” Lacey told Touchdown Alabama. “I am cool with all the coaches. We have good relationships. It is cool to just go up there for visits and build relationships with the coaches.”
The Saraland quarterback feels an offer from the Tide would be another big accomplishment for him.
”That would be really cool,” Lacey said. “That is a big one.”
Lacey threw for 3,176 passing yards and 40 passing touchdowns as a sophomore. He rushed for four touchdowns, but he is hungry to do more.
“I still want to work on my accuracy and arm strength,” said Lacey. “Just working on everything that I said. I am working on getting on the board, drawing up coverages and breaking them down, knowing what everybody is doing, just working on building up on everything that I already have and adding a couple of others like probably running more.”
