Alabama football strikes out on its top offensive coordinator candidate to replace Bill O’Brien.

Ryan Grubb came across the country from Washington to meet Nick Saban and interview for the job. He decided to turn down Saban and the Crimson Tide to stay with the Huskies. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported the news Tuesday morning.

Grubb signed a two-year extension for the Huskies after the 2022 season.

He coached Washington’s offense to rank seventh nationally in scoring (39.7 ppg) and second for total offense (515.8 ypg). Grubb took Michael Penix, a transfer from Indiana University, and made him a star quarterback. Penix totaled 4,641 passing yards and 31 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Washington had eight players catch 20+ passes, including two 1,000-yard receivers.

Rome Odunze (1,145 yards, seven touchdowns) and Jalen McMillan (1,098, nine touchdowns) had 70+ catches.

Jeff Lebby, Joe Brady, and Brian Johnson (Eagles QB coach) are in the mix for Saban as offensive coordinators.

We will see which one gets the job.
