Tommy Rees has “Run the damn ball” pinned on his Twitter that Alabama fans love

He is not a sexy hire, name-wise, but Tommy Rees may be what Alabama needs as an offensive coordinator.

Alabama football fans have been screaming one statement for two years: “Run the damn ball.” They have said it so much that a clothing line has been created for it. Well, Rees’ offensive attack at Notre Dame was based on a power run game and transition to shots downfield.

The Fighting Irish scored 40+ points thirty times under Rees. He developed Brandon Wimbush, Ian Book, Jack Coan, and Drew Pyne as quarterbacks while his offenses helped Josh Adams (1,430) and Kyren Williams become 1,000-yard running backs.

Alabama fans should Rees embodying the culture of pounding opponents. He will have talented backs such as Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams, Jamarion Miller, Justice Haynes, and Richard Young, to scheme plays for. Greg McElroy, a former Alabama quarterback, said Rees will have Alabama’s offense looking like 2015 again. The Tide ran the ball with Derrick Henry, who won the Heisman Trophy, and took downfield shots in the play-action game with Jacob Coker and Calvin Ridley. This style allowed Alabama to win the College Football Playoff National Championship. Saban has the style back in Rees, but let’s see what happens.
