Mike Locksley was not a fan of Nick Saban telling Jalen Hurts to go to Oklahoma over opportunities at Maryland and Miami.
Hurts played at Alabama under Locksley and Saban in 2017 and 2018. Locksley moved on to become Maryland’s head football coach in December of 2018, and he was recruiting Hurts when he decided to transfer. Saban said he encouraged Hurts to go to Oklahoma in a recent interview during this time.

“I wish he would have had that same energy when he begged me to stay through recruiting and sign on twelve of those, Evan Neals, and all those great players,” Locksley said with a laugh on Mad Dog Sports Radio. “I should have taken that approach.”
The Maryland head coach went on to say he felt Saban gave Hurts the best advice.
