Alabama officially announced the hiring of Tommy Rees Monday.
Tommy Rees, 30, comes to the University of Alabama as an offensive coordinator. Rees was coaching quarterbacks at Notre Dame for the past six years and also served as offensive coordinator.
“I have the utmost respect for what Coach Saban has built at Alabama and the tradition of this program,” Rees said. “I’m excited to have this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to getting in the meeting room and on the practice field with this team.”
Rees went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft after his playing days at Notre Dame. In 2015 he swapped in the helmet for a hat and began coaching at Northwestern as a grad assistant, later moving on to the San Diego Chargers, before returning to Notre Dame.
As offensive coordinator at Notre Dame, he established a run-heavy offensive, instituting smash-mouth football, but also sprinkling in modern-day concepts as well.
