Ty Simpson is preparing for a chance to win Alabama’s starting quarterback job, but the former five-star in the 2022 recruiting class learned the game from his legendary father.

Jason Simpson, who has served as head coach at Tennessee-Martin since 2006, helped guide his son through Westview High School in Martin, Tenn. He assisted Ty to 41 touchdown passes in his senior year as one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation guided his program to a Class 2A State Championship and earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the state of Tennessee. Simpson has not only helped his son, but he surprisingly has crafted an impressive coaching tree in his head coaching tenure. Pro Football Scoop has an in-depth report about several names that came under Simpson’s teachings as a coach.

Names such as Kane Wommack, Marcus Satterfield, Gerard Parker, Jay Graham, Chris Boone, David Reeves, and Tray Scott came under Simpson. Other names grew under him as well as he produced more than 10 former NFL staffers and almost 20 coaches at Power 5 schools. Simpson’s coaching tree could become as big as Nick Saban’s, especially if he continues grooming more successful names. It will be fun to watch Ty compete for Alabama’s starting quarterback job in spring practice and fall camp.
