Commanders make Da’Ron Payne second-highest paid NFL DL with new deal

Geoff Burke - USA Today Sports

The Washington Commanders gave Da’Ron Payne the big bag.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Sunday about Washington making the former Alabama football star the highest-paid defensive tackle in the National Football League not named Aaron Donald. Payne, a native of Birmingham, Ala., signs a 4-year deal worth $90 million — including $60 million guaranteed. Payne had a career season in 2022 with 18 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks.

Payne was set to make a little over $18 million on a franchise tag, but the Commanders gave him a bigger deal.

He assisted the Crimson Tide to two College Football Playoff National Championships in 2015 and 2017.
