A marquee defensive piece from Alabama’s 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship team has re-signed with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.
Isaiah Buggs, a Louisiana native, has returned to the Lions on a two-year deal. Tom Pelisserro of NFL Network reports that Buggs’ deal is worth up to $6 million. As a defensive lineman, Buggs had a breakout season for Detroit with a career-high 46 total tackles. He also posted two pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a sack, helping the Lions to a 9-8 record last season.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder was a sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2019 NFL Draft. Buggs spent three years in Pittsburgh before arriving in Detroit. He played collegiate ball at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2015-16) before transferring to the University of Alabama. Buggs collected 102 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, 13 quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in two seasons with the Crimson Tide. He had a team-high 9.5 sacks in 2018.

Buggs made second-team All-SEC in 2018.
