Alabama football looking for leadership this spring

Nick Saban screaming at Alabama spring practice

Alabama football lost multiple leaders of its team from last season to the NFL, leaving the Crimson Tide with a lack of player leadership.

Bryce Young, Will Anderson, Jordan Battle, Henry To’oto’o and DJ Dale were all seen as leaders for the Tide last season. Each of those guys has their eyes set on the NFL with Alabama’s Pro-Day around the corner. With their departures, Nick Saban is hoping a new group of players earn the right to be seen as leaders this spring.

“Hopefully, we’ll have some players that step up and become leaders, but they’re going to have to earn the right to do that,” Saban said in his Monday press conference. “We haven’t picked a leadership group yet. We have an advisory committee, and what the advisory committee is supposed to do is go back to their room, to their group and advise them of my and our message that they all need to understand. Whoever does that the best has obviously got a chance to be a leader, but we haven’t decided who that is yet. So they have to earn the right to do that.”

Alabama will go through a series of practices this spring before it plays its spring game, A-Day on April 22. The Crimson Tide’s coaching staff is expected to have their eyes wide open in search of which players can step into leadership roles in the future.
