Jontae Gilbert left his latest visit to Alabama with a big smile on his face after earning an offer from Nick Saban.
Gilbert is a four-star 2025 recruit, who is currently committed to The Ohio State Buckeyes. He holds 17 D1 offers at the moment with his latest offer from the Crimson Tide.
Ohio State picked up a commitment from Gilbert last summer. Some things have changed in his recruitment since then, including having offers from in-state program and back-to-back National Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama.
The Tide hosted Gilbert for an unofficial visit Friday, and Nick Saban offered him.
“I went to coach Saban’s office and had a great conversation with him,” said Gilbert. “It felt great to get offered by the head coach of Alabama. I love the program, and it is a great place to be.”
Gilbert’s latest visit to UA gave him an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how things operate in Tuscaloosa under Saban.
“I got to see how the guy’s practice, got to see Coach Saban is hands-on with the defense, especially the defensive backs and got to see how defenses get installed,” Gilbert said.
Saban watched Gilbert’s film Thursday night and a few things stood out to the Alabama head coach.
“He said he watched my film, and he loves my athleticism, my toughness, the way I can tackle and my ability to play safety and corner,” Gilbert told Touchdown Alabama.
