Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football, and Nick Saban knows better than anyone the importance of spending time every day, working the recruiting trail.
Saban has consistently helped the Crimson Tide pull in top recruiting classes throughout his time in Tuscaloosa. Alabama’s coaching staff’s success on the recruiting front can be contributed to a lot of factors, including their persistence when working the trail. Saban detailed his and Alabama’s staff’s daily recruiting routine during his Thursday press conference.
“It is just time management,” Saban said. “We probably have a half a dozen guys or more at every practice and try to spend the mornings on football, and I’ll start at like one o’clock in the afternoon and meet with recruits until the two o’clock meetings. Then I’m focused again on football. And in the days we don’t have practice, I make calls from one to three to recruits. And if some visit, I visit with them during that time. The coaches have those blocks of times when I’m recruiting, they’re working on recruiting, whether it’s player evaluations or not. Now, me personally, I usually take my little laptop home and evaluate probably four or five players every night. Um, you know, it doesn’t take that long. Uh, if I don’t have time to do it today, I just take the laptop home and do it at home. So, but we’ve already watched a lot of players, but we continue to watch as we get new information on guys when they go to combines and things like that. So. the evaluation process is very important because we want to get as much information as we can on guys. So if they come here, it’s a good fit for them and it’s a good fit for us.”
Alabama currently has four 2024 commits with pledges from Julian Sayin, Jaylen Mbakwe, Perry Thompson and Sterling Dixon. Saban and Alabama are often putting in work evaluating 2024 recruits and prospects in future recruiting classes.
