Darrian Dalcourt returned to Alabama to be the ‘best player’ he can be

Darrian Dalcourt returned to Alabama football for a fifth season to improve as an all-around player with more opportunities.

Dalcourt signed with Alabama in the 2019 recruiting cycle as a four-star recruit. He earned Alabama’s starting center job at the beginning of the 2021 football season. The former four-star started in five games last season as he battled injuries.

The Maryland native said his decision to return to Alabama had a lot to do with opportunities on and off the field.

“I think I had a lot left on the table both academically and football-wise, I’m getting my master’s, that was a big part of it”, said Dalcourt during media availability on Wednesday. I feel like on the field I missed a lot of time with injuries, so I think my main reason for that was I wanted to come back, have a healthy year, and try to become the best player I can be.”

Dalcourt has spent time at both center and guard this spring, offering a lot of versatility to a younger offensive line.

“It’s my first time playing guard of course it comes with learning, comes with mistakes, but you learn from those mistakes and it does nothing but add versatility to me and also the offensive line,” said Dalcourt. Whatever I can do, whatever we can do as an offensive line to become the best unit we can, I think we’re all willing to do it.”

Nick Saban has been adamant since the 2022 season ended, he wants the team to cut back on penalties and be more disciplined, which is something that the offensive line struggled with in big games last year.

Alabama had three false starts at the beginning of the season in their narrow 20-19 win against Texas and four in their 52-49 loss at Tennessee.

“The main message for us as an offense is to play disciplined football and cut down on penalties,” said Dalcourt.
