Jahmyr Gibbs compares himself to former NFL speed demon

Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs (#1) runs for a long touchdown versus Auburn at Bryant-Denny Stadium in 2022 Iron Bowl.

Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs joined NFL Network Monday where he described himself as a mixture of 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and former Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles.

“I think I have a mixture of Christian McCaffrey and Jamaal Charles,” said Gibbs. Christian McCaffrey is versatile and can do everything, run routes out of the backfield, go out in the slot, or out wide and run routes. But, I think I’m a little bit faster than him, so that’s why I bring up Jamaal Charles with his breakaway speed and his burst and his acceleration.”

The comparison between Charles and Gibbs is spot on, both backs are 5-foot-11 200 pounds, and recorded 4.36 40-yard dash times at the NFL Combine.  McCaffrey is also listed at 5-foot-11 and about 200 pounds, but he ran his 40-yard dash a bit slower at 4.48. Gibbs has also been compared to Saints running back Alvin Kamara due to his phenomenal footwork and elusiveness.

Gibbs has met with the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles so far. Most draft analysts have him pegged as the second back off the board, behind Texas’s Bijan Robinson, but both are projected by most to be first-rounders.
