Alabama’s running backs room has been one of the standouts so far this spring due to the returning upperclassmen duo of Jase McClelland and Roydell Williams. Sophomore Jam Miller also flashed some impressive traits in mop duty proving to be another physical young back.
But the Crimson Tide backfield has gotten yet another boost from a new face in true freshman Justice Haynes.
Haynes, a five-star recruit, has earned the praise from Nick Saban this spring as he raved about the running back’s progression in the few weeks he’s been in action.
“Justice has had a great spring,” Saban said. “He’s a really good player. He’s a really mature guy. He’s really smart. Nothing’s really too big for him. He goes out there and competes, and if you are just a guy sitting on a log watching, you would never know he’s a freshman.
“So he’s a very talented guy. He can make cuts. He can make you miss. He’s got some power, good speed. He’s a good receiver. So he’s gone a really, really, really good job all spring.”
New offensive coordinator Tommy Rees brings a run-first philosophy to the team and judging by Saban’s other comments regarding the unit, the team could possibly have the same rotation/production as the 2017 group.
“I mean all the guys have done well, all four guys have had really food springs they’re all very productive players,” Saban said last week. “All those guys can contribute to the team in some ways. I mean doing really well as long as we can stay healthy at that position, I don’t think that’s an issue on our team.”
