Nick Saban talks confidence level for Alabama’s quarterback room

Nick Saban may see a packed-out Bryant-Denny Stadium for A-Day if nothing more than to see who takes the next step in becoming the starting quarterback for the University of Alabama.

Alabama has four scholarship quarterbacks on its roster, but two have captivated the interest of fans. Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson have had good and bad moments in spring practice, but both have a chance Saturday to control the imagination of Crimson Tide supporters. Rumors have hit social media about the possibility of the Tide pursuing a quarterback in the NCAA transfer portal. Coach Saban addressed it in Wednesday’s press conference, showing the confidence he has in the current quarterback room. As of now, it does not appear that Saban has any interest to dip into the portal for a signal-caller.

“We have confidence in the guys we have in the program,” Saban said.

“They have worked hard all spring. They have had really good moments where they have shown consistency and ability to make plays, and obviously, we still have things to work on. I am confident in the guys we have. I am confident they are going to work hard and be dedicated to continuing to improve so they can play winning football at their position.”

Saban would like to see someone become the leader in the quarterback room.

The game-like atmosphere for Saturday’s exhibition could force someone to step up. Alabama fans will have their eyes on which quarterback gives the team the best chance to win a College Football Playoff National Championship in the fall.
