Bryce Young has given Nick Saban something very special.
Coach Saban has produced the No. 1 overall pick in the common NFL Draft era for the first time in his coaching career.
The Carolina Panthers made it official Thursday night by taking Young No. 1 overall in the draft. He becomes the first No. 1 overall selection in Crimson Tide football history since Joe Namath in the 1965 NFL Draft. Young was a dynamic quarterback for Alabama as a two-year starter, bringing the Tide its first Heisman Trophy-winning player at the position in 2021.
He set the school’s single-season record for passing yards (4,872), touchdown passes (47), and total touchdowns (50) in 2021, pushing the Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship. Young dominated the SEC, despite his size at 5-10 and 204 pounds, posting 8,200 passing yards and 79 touchdown passes in two years as a starter. He finished his career ranked second all-time for passing yards (8,356), passing touchdowns (80), and total touchdowns (87). Carolina has a game-changer on offense.
