The “winning culture” is still strong for the University of Alabama football program.
After the Panthers took Bryce Young, DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans grabbed Will Anderson at No. 3 overall
Ryans, a former Crimson Tide linebacker, served as a defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers for two seasons. He was an inside linebackers coach for the 49ers from 2018 to 2020 and a defensive quality control coach in 2017. His excellence as an assistant earned him a head coaching opportunity for the Texans, and the 38-year-old took Anderson with his first selection.
Anderson was a force in the SEC for three seasons, totaling 10+ sacks in 2021 and 2022.
He finished his career as the lone two-time Unanimous First-Team All-American in Alabama history. Anderson was a two-time Bronko Nagurski Award winner, a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and a Heisman finalist in 2021.
He is second behind Derrick Thomas for second all-time for career sacks (34.5) and tackles for loss (62).
Ryans has a defensive show-stopper in Anderson.
