Alabama got a great performance from its defensive backs on A-Day, but does Nick Saban want more experience?

The Crimson Tide lost Jahquez Robinson and Tre’Quon Fegans, both four stars, to the NCAA transfer portal days before the annual spring game. Saban said Robinson and Fegans play cornerback and ‘Star,’ and it forced the Tide to switch things up.

Experienced players such as Malachi Moore, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, and Kristian Story played well.

Alabama also had young guys, including Dezz Ricks, Antonio Kite, and Jake Pope, to impress fans.

It has experience; however, will Saban look into the portal to pull in an experienced defensive back? Trey Amos (Louisiana-Lafayette) and Jaylen Key (University of Alabama at Birmingham) are two guys the Tide is considering. Key has Alabama in his top six list of transfer schools. Amos reportedly received an offer from Alabama after he entered the portal on Monday.

Amos totaled 35 tackles and a team-high eight pass breakups in 11 games last year at Louisiana. Key played safety for UAB in 2022 for 13 games. He recorded 60 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and a team-tying three interceptions. One or both players would be interesting additions to the Tide, especially with their experience.

Alabama is expected to have a strong defense in thee fall with Kevin Steele.
