After entering the transfer portal at the end of spring football, former Alabama defensive back Jahquez Robinson landed up north at Colorado with head coach Deion Sanders who has been active in the portal.

Robinson, a redshirt junior, explained why he chose the Buffaloes as the team to continue his football journey with during an interview with Brian Howell of BuffZone.com.

It turns out what made the difference for Robinson was getting to work with former Alabama safeties coach Charles Kelly who is Colorado’s defensive coordinator.

“I would say the No. 1 deciding factor was coach Kelly,” Robinson said. “As soon as I hopped in the portal, Coach Kelly set up a visit to Colorado.”

Robinson also got into what led to him leaving Alabama and how not settling into a position in the secondary caused some issues regarding his playing time.

“Me being at Alabama of course there are other guys as well that they want to play and everybody’s good,” Robinson said. “So they’re just trying guys out at different positions and stuff like that but I felt like I never really found my home or a certain position that I could really (say) this is what I play. So I kind of feel like there was kind of a disagreement between what position I should play or where I was on the depth chart at times. So I kind of wanted a fresh start and go with someone I knew and knows me well.”

Ultimately, Robinson isn’t bitter about leaving the Crimson Tide, in fact, he is now excited to say that he will be coached by the greatest college football coach of all time Nick Saban and also the best defensive back of all time in Sanders.

“Getting coached by the best DB of all time is obviously the best honor you could have,” Robinson said. “I played for the best college football coach of all time and I’m being coached by the best DB. I feel like I’ve got the best of both worlds.”
