The New York Jets are taking their time on Quinnen Williams’ new contract.

He is one of the most significant players on its defense, but he continues to wait on a deal. Williams turned in a first-team NFL All-Pro season in 2022. The 6-foot-3, 303-pound defensive tackle had 55 stops, 12 tackles for loss (tied for the team lead), and a team-high 12 sacks. He also had four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Williams has watched several defensive linemen get paid this offseason. His former Alabama teammate, Da’Ron Payne, got a new contract for the Washington Commanders. Jeffery Simmons got a four-year, $94 million deal from the Titans. Dexter Lawrence received $90 million for four years with the New York Giants. ESPN’s Rich Cimini says Williams and the Jets are ‘not close’ to an agreement on a new contract.

Hopefully, something positive breaks soon for the former first-round pick.
