Jaylen Key announced his commitment to Alabama Friday.
Key is a former UAB defensive back, who entered the transfer portal last month. He currently stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs approximately 210 pounds. The Florida native finished the 2022 football season at safety with 60 tackles, three interceptions, 4.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles at safety as a redshirt junior.
Alabama hosted him twice before picking up his commitment. His latest visit to Tuscaloosa was an official visit earlier this week. He told Touchdown Alabama his unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa last month gave him a great feel for the Crimson Tide’s program and the people in it.
“It is a great environment, even better people,” Key said. “Overall, quite impressive to say the least. It is definitely a reason they have had the success they have had on and off the field, and you can feel it throughout the entire campus.”
Alabama lost seven defensive backs to the NFL and transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2022 football season. Key helps gives the Tide some experienced depth in its secondary.
