Former Alabama DB Deionte Thompson cut from Jaguars

Brett Davis - USA Today Sports

A former Alabama safety is looking for a new NFL team.

The Jacksonville Jaguars cut Deionte Thompson, a Crimson Tide alumnus. As a native Texan, he came to the Tide as a four-star in the 2015 signing class. Thompson started as a wide receiver, but he transitioned to defensive back. He helped Alabama to two College Football Playoff National Championships in 2015 and 2017, but his best year came in 2018.

Thompson finished with 78 tackles as a junior.

He totaled 3.5 stops for loss, six pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Thompson got selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. In four years, he collected 54 tackles and three pass breakups. He made the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad on Oct. 19, 2022, and signed a reserve/future contract on Feb. 13, but he got released on May 16.

Hopefully, Thompson will find a new NFL home soon.
