The Bengals made it clear to Jonah Williams this offseason that they would be moving on from him at left tackle.
The team handed a four-year $64 million contract to Orlando Brown to take William’s place guarding Joe Burrow’s blindside which resulted in the 25-year-old requesting a trade out of Cincinnati.
Despite the request, Williams has remained on the Bengals roster and joined the team on Tuesday for the first time. Williams did get a chance to speak with the media where he shared his frustrations with the lack of communication from the Bengals front office on possibly moving him to right tackle and signing Brown.

“The main issue for me was the way that I found out, the way the communication happened,” Williams said according to ESPN. “Because I’m sitting on my couch. My fiancée is 40 weeks pregnant. Her due date was in I want to say three days, and I’m rehabbing my knee and all that stuff.”
Williams, who is coming off a dislocated kneecap, said he is “fired up” to play right tackle and help the team regardless.
Prior to being selected by the Bengals with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams proved to be a versatile player at Alabama where he started his freshman season at right tackle in 2016 before switching sides for the remaining seasons of his career.
Although the trade request still hasn’t been addressed to him by the front office, Williams noted that he prepared to play for the Bengals this season.
“But there’s so many things to me that matter that are important about this team and my teammates and my personal life and my family that I can move past it,” Williams said.
