Originally playing his first two seasons at Notre Dame, Buchner transferred to Alabama back in April shortly following A-Day. He will be competing with redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe and redshirt freshman Ty Simpson for the starting quarterback job this fall.
“We wanted to give our quarterbacks in our program every opportunity to win the job in spring practice. We felt like we needed to add some competition to the room, and Tyler was certainly a guy that was gonna be the starter last year at Notre Dame, got injured, played in the bowl game, played really well,” Saban said on College Gameday ahead of the NFL Draft. “So we thought he would add a lot of competition, and we think he’s got the right kind of character and attitude to be a positive influence on our team.”
Buchner arrives at Alabama with a previous history with Tommy Rees who was his offensive coordinator with the Fighting Irish for both seasons.
