The list was conducted by ESPN’S Jeremy Fowler ahead of the 2023 season, and participants were asked to rank the top 10 players at each of the 11 positions. The rankings for Defensive Tackles, Edge Rushers, Off-the-ball Linebackers, and Cornerbacks have been released.
#1 Patrick Surtain- Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos used the ninth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Surtain, and he made his way onto the field pretty quickly. The former All-American debuted in Week 2, and in his first game with the Broncos, he picked off fellow rookie and No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence. Surtain II went on and was selected to Pro Football Focus’s 2021 All-Rookie Team, with 58 tackles, four interceptions, and also a touchdown. In 2022 he had nearly identical stats and earned Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors. To be named by his peers as the best corner in the league at such a young age is truly remarkable.
#6 Marlon Humphrey- Baltimore Ravens
Humphrey is a veteran in the league and has put together an impressive career going into his seventh season. He is a First-team All-Pro (2019), 3x time Pro Bowler (2019,2020, 2022), and has tallied 347 tackles, 13 forced fumbles, and 12 interceptions so far in his career. Humphrey has been a leader in Baltimore, and his play is a big reason for why their secondary is regarded as one of the best in the league. The Hoover High product signed a contract extension with the Ravens back in 2020, and will not be an unrestricted free agent until 2027.
#8 Trevon Diggs- Dallas Cowboys
If there’s a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde player in the NFL, Diggs would be the guy, some love his big play ability, while others say that he gets burned in coverage quite often. Diggs burst onto the scene and quickly became a household name during the 2021 season when he picked off 11 balls, including his former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts. In just a couple of years, he’s earned First-team All-Pro (2021), 2× Pro Bowl (2021,2022), and was NFL interceptions leader in 2021.
