Greg McElroy details why Ty Simpson is his pick to be starting QB for Alabama

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson (15) throws the ball at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday, Apr 22, 2023.

Greg McElroy stated earlier this week he feels Alabama football’s quarterback competition will come down to Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner, and he has Simpson coming out on top.

The former Alabama quarterback and now ESPN college football commentator dove into why he feels Simpson will be QB1 in Tuscaloosa in the future Wednesday on SEC Now.

“Look at what Tommy Reese has had in the past. He had Ian Buck, he did a really good job with Ian Book.” McElroy said. “He had Jack Coan. Jack Coan, he did a really nice job with, had a great year. This is gonna be a team that puts emphasis on the the line of srimmage. They wanna run the football. Now, both Jalen Milroe and Tyler Buchner are better options with the ball in their hands. So, I still think they have a role within the offense because they’re not going to completely abandon quarterback run…Of the three, he (Ty Simpson) is the most accurate. Will he be the guy that makes the right decision all the time? That’s what they need to figure out. But I really believe that he will be the guy by the time they get to week two, and then he’s going to progress as the season goes along. And he continues to get confidence in himself and the players around him.”
