Former NFL player remains with Jalen Milroe as Alabama’s starting quarterback

Nick Saban wants Alabama’s quarterback room to ‘force him’ to play the best player.

However, did someone manage to create a little separation in the first scrimmage? A former linebacker in the National Football League was in attendance during the Crimson Tide’s game-like practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Corey Miller, who played nine seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings, came away impressed with Jalen Milroe’s performance.

The South Carolina native has been high on Milroe. Sources confirmed to Touchdown Alabama Magazine that the redshirt sophomore had the best day among quarterbacks in the first scrimmage. Miller confirmed the report with his eye witness account of observing Milroe. He stated in Tuesday’s episode of The Bama Standard that he came away ‘enhanced’ by Milroe’s outing.

“He was solid,” Miller said. “He has been my number one from day one. Nothing has changed that in my opinion. Before I saw him practice, nothing changed what I thought. I think Alabama fans should relax with the quarterback situation. They are not going to have a quarterback problem. You are making this problem in your mind.”

Miller, from his vantage point, saw Milroe look much better as a passer.

“Jalen Milroe can play,” he said. “What I saw was a guy that can throw the ball better, a guy that has control of the offense, and a guy that is confident.”

Miller said the reason Tyler Buchner was added from the transfer portal is to bring more competition, but he does not see it as Coach Saban not having confidence in either Milroe or Ty Simpson. Per sources, Milroe executed an 80-yard touchdown drive and tossed multiple touchdown passes in the first scrimmage. He has a chance to stack another quality outing this weekend.
