With the end of fall camp and Middle Tennessee week on the horizon, Alabama’s quarterback competition is still in full swing as Nick Saban continues to search for the leader of his offense.
Saban has been looking for either Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson or Tyler Buchner to fully take the horns of the Crimson Tide’s offense and following the team’s second scrimmage, it appears as if the staff has gotten a better understanding of where things stand.
But although things are in the early stages of coming together, Saban was adamant about the fluidity of the position and how a decision on who plays can be made at any moment no matter what point in the season.
“It’s sort of taking shape to some degree but someone’s gotta do it,” Saban said. “And where you all think like whoever we name as the starter for the first game that’s like the end of it. That’s not the end of it. It’s just the beginning.
“What if the guy doesn’t play good? He’s not entitled to keep playing. And the guy that doesn’t play has got every the opportunity to practice, be more consistent, and win the team over so when he gets an opportunity to play he plays really well. I mean we have changed quarterbacks around here a few times during the season. So I know you guys are looking for an end, but it’s not even gonna be the end in the first game.”
If one thing’s for certain about Saban and his history of quarterback competitions it’s that he won’t be afraid to make a monumental decision at any point during the regular season, or postseason to better his team.
