Rece Davis says keep an eye on Alabama freshman QB

ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis feels Alabama freshman quarterback, Dylan Lonergan, is worth keeping an eye on.

Lonergan’s name continues to be mentioned around the Crimson Tide this fall despite some feeling it is a long shot he will be a starter as a freshman for Alabama. However, the Tide has not named a starting quarterback for the upcoming season with their first matchup against Middle Tennessee State 10 days away. Rece Davis feels Lonergan can carve out a spot out for himself if the Tide’s quarterback room struggles early in the season.

“If they don’t get it solved early, in terms of somebody to use the Saban vernacular if no one takes the bull by the horns at quarterback down the line, keep an eye on true freshman Dylan Lonergan, who probably has thrown the ball as well or better than any of them but, he was in for Spring, but he’s a freshman,” Lonergan said.

RELATED: Nick Saban highlights Dylan Lonergan ‘great potiential’

Nick Saban has been impressed with Lonergan’s great ability during fall camp. He discussed the former four-star in his press conference after Alabama’s final scrimmage on Saturday.

“He’s done really well,” Saban said. “He shows great ability, great potential. I think that the thing that he needs is experience. And everybody says, ‘Well, what’s experience? What’s your ability to self-assess?’ I have a better ability to self-assess right now than when I was 18, I don’t know about you guys, aight. So how do you learn how to do that? Through experience. You have experiences, you make mistakes, you mess up. You say, ‘Well, I’m not gonna do that again.’ And that’s how you learn and progress. He’s a talented guy and certainly a guy that we wanna continue to try to develop. But he’s done a nice job so far in camp.”
