DeVonta Smith, a Louisiana native, is the best wide receiver to play for the Tide. He arrived as a four-star in the 2017 recruiting class, but Smith became an unbelievable superstar. As a freshman, he caught a game-winning touchdown pass versus Mississippi State; however, the world learned his name after his 41-yard, game-winning touchdown reception against Georgia in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship matchup. He could have turned professional after a 1,000+ yard season in 2019, but Smith returned to school for his senior year. He made the right decision and became an impressive highlight reel during a COVID-shortened season. Smith recorded 117 catches for 1,856 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns, setting the school’s single-season record for yards and touchdowns. He won the Heisman Memorial Trophy and a host of other individual awards that year.
