He does not need a superstar quarterback to win a College Football Playoff National Championship; however, Nick Saban does need someone he can depend on to make the right decisions for Alabama’s offense.
The Crimson Tide’s fanbase is in a tough spot. Some are nervous about the quarterback room while others believe the conversation will solve itself. Alabama does not open its 2023 campaign against a marquee powerhouse program and that is a good thing. It hosts Middle Tennessee State on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which gives Saban a chance to see his quarterback room work some things out. He made a very encouraging statement about Jalen Milroe — praising him for his confidence, consistency, and comfortability in the pocket. If he continues this, Milroe should be the quarterback all season.

Seth McLaughlin, a senior, is the anchor of Alabama’s offensive line at center.
He stated Monday that he sees ‘a lot of growth’ from everyone in the quarterback room.
“Each guy has gotten a lot better, and it has been easier playing center for each guy taken reps throughout camp,” McLaughlin said. “I’m glad to see those guys progressing. Any guy that goes out there this week is going to have a good time and play well.”

Coach Saban did not provide a depth chart for MTSU, but it is good to hear confidence from a veteran player about the quarterback room. We will see who takes the field first and who can be the most effective in the offense.
