Sarkisian, who was once the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, feels Alabama’s offense presents a variety of threats Texas must be prepared for.
“Ultimately, if it is a ground-and-pound game, we have to defend that,” Sarkisian said during ESPN’s broadcast of Florida State vs. LSU. “If they try to create space and get the ball to their speed on the perimeter, we have to defend that. If it is utilizing the quarterback run, which Jalen is more than capable of doing, We have to defend that. You have to defend whatever is presented to you. Our guys preparing for the variety of offenses they have at their disposal is the most important thing.”
The Texas head coach also discussed the challenge of playing a tough opponent early in the season.
“One of the challenges in early season games is you don’t know quite what you are going to get,” said Sarkisian. “One of the keys for us is that we have to trust our training better than we did this week. We had a couple of mental breakdowns and did things that we shouldn’t. That’s part of the process of growing and developing your team from Week 1 to Week 2. There are definitely fixable things we can do.”
Kickoff for Alabama-Texas is set for 6 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
