Nick Saban and Steve Sarkisian are the most significant figures in Saturday’s game, but the Alabama-Texas matchup has arrived in political offices for a second straight year.

Last season, governors Kay Ivey (Alabama) and Greg Abbott (Texas) put a friendly wager on the game in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns played well in 2022, but Bryce Young found a way to deliver the Crimson Tide to a 20-19 victory. Alabama is hosting Texas at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and both mayors want in on the action. Walter Maddox (Tuscaloosa) and Kirk Watson (Austin) have a wager of their own. According to Maddox, the bet involves barbeque. If the Tide loses, Maddox will send Watson some Dreamland barbeque. If the ‘Horns fall short again, Watson has to give Maddox some barbecue from Micklethwait Craft Meats.

The finest cuisine is on the line for both.
