Alabama head coach Nick Saban provided the latest injury update on defensive backs Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key during his weekly radio show on Thursday.
“We’ve had a lot of issues in the secondary with some of these guys, so we’re working hard to try to get them ready,” Saban said. “Malachi’s been able to practice some. Jaylen Key practiced some today. Both of them will be game-day decisions.
“The secondary is not someplace you can play if you can’t move around pretty good. But I’ve been encouraged by the progress that they’ve made.”
Following his first interception as a member of the Crimson Tide, Key left the game with a lower-body injury while covering a kickoff. He was replaced by Kristian Story on defense for the remainder of the game.
Moore was also injured on special teams as he was assisted off the field by the training staff after work on punt return. Alabama opted to shift cornerback Terrion Arnold to STAR in place of Moore with Trey Amos entering the game as well.
Alabama is set to kickoff against Texas this Saturday, Sept 9. at 6 p.m. with ESPN on the call.
