How Steve Sarkisian is viewing this year’s matchup with Alabama

Steve Sarkisian celebrates a win with Texas during 2021 season

The Texas Longhorns head football coach Steve Sarkisian is feels their matchup with Alabama this weekend will be a good measuring stick for their program.

Sarkisian and the Longhorns had Alabama on the ropes last season and almost pulled off a win over the Crimson Tide in Austin. Alabama escaped with a win thanks to a Will Reichard Field Goal. The Texas head coach said the Longhorns will look back at this weekend’s matchup and break down how they fared in a variety of areas.

“We’re going to come out of the game, and in the postgame press conference in the next couple of days, we’ll see where we think we’re good enough and where we were maybe not quite,” Sarkisian said. “And that might not be personnel. That might be scheme, that might be unforced errors. What does that look like? What does that look like in all three phases?”

Sarkisian also discussed how last year’s loss impacted the Longhorns during his Thursday media availability.

“We’ve made a lot of strides, and we’ve come a long way. I think last year’s game served as a good benchmark,” said Sarkisian. “I think it helped us, helped instill some confidence in some players on our team of what they were capable of. We’re gonna go in here Saturday night, and the goal is they get our best shot, and I’m assuming we’re going to get their best shot.”
