Former Alabama running back and Heisman-Trophy winner, Mark Ingram feels the Crimson Tide’s decision to bench Jalen Milroe is an overreaction.
Multiple reports stating Tyler Buchner was going to start at quarterback for Alabama against USF surfaced Friday.
Ingram revealed his feelings about the quarterback change Saturday on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff. The NFL free agent feels Alabama did not utilize Milroe’s strengths against Texas, and the Tide’s inability to put pressure on Quinn Ewers played a huge role in their loss to Texas.
“I think this is an overreaction,” Ingram said. “There was a lot more glaring issues than just the quarterback play. They dropped him back 39 times. You think we have Brady Quinn back there? Utilize his skill set. Move the pocket. Let him roll. Let him utilize his play-making abilities, which he showed several times in that game. But let me tell you, on defense, they allowed six plays of over 30-plus yards and two touchdowns. They lost by 10 points. And they had no sacks. Quinn Ewers was back there wheeling and dealing. You say he’s a first-round pick — and it was because of that game. And then they had 10 penalties for 90 yards, and two of those penalties they called back touchdowns.”
Alabama takes on USF on the road Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CST.
