Alabama is expected to have a new man under center when it takes the field against USF as Tyler Buchner is likely to be the starting quarterback today according to several reports.
Redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe started the first two games for the Crimson Tide but now Nick Saban and crew will be giving the Notre Dame transfer a look after suffering its first loss of the season to Texas last week.
Milroe certainly didn’t have one of his best games against the Longhorns as he completed roughly 52% of his passes while also throwing two interceptions during the 34-24 defeat.
Saban shared prior to the start of the season that the quarterback competition would continue on a week-to-week basis until one of the contenders won over the team. But even then, Alabama has received a bit of criticism for the move to Buchner with some coming from SEC analyst Tim Tebow on Friday.

During an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show, Tebow shared that the loss wasn’t completely on Milroe and that the team at large should shoulder the blame equally.
“I think when you look at last week’s game, there were some plays that Jalen really wants back that he made some mistakes in that game that really hurt them,” Tebow said. “But there was also a lot of other areas that Alabama had weaknesses.
“Their offensive line didn’t perform They had pressure on him the entire day. I don’t think it’s fair to Jalen to put this all on him. It’s on a lot of areas at Alabama and I think it’s the – from the coaching staff to the physicality to the playmakers to also some of it’s on Jalen, it goes all the way around.”
Tebow went on to add that he believes the decision to move to Buchner is not fair to Milroe.
“Now we don’t get to see all the practices, and so there could be a lot going on there,” Tebow said. “But when you had all the support after Week 1 and everybody’s saying what a great job and the support of his teammates, and then one week that doesn’t go your way – but this is what I think is so important: Yes, he did not perform up to his ability, but you could say that about the offensive and defensive line.
“And I think I just really want to be fair, let’s not put this all on Jalen. It’s on the entire team.”
Alabama will kick off against USF at 2:30 p.m. with ABC on the call.
