Nick Saban disagrees with approach to Dan Lanning’s pregame speech ahead of win over Colorado

Nick Saban was not a fan of how Oregon’s head coach Dan Lanning’s viral pregame speech ahead of the Ducks’ matchup with Colorado was handled.

Saban doesn’t consider himself to be a ‘rah-rah guy’ as a coach. The Alabama head coach said he prefers to send and reiterate a message throughout the week during his weekly interview on the Pat McAfee show. While discussing his method, Saban gave his thoughts on how Lannings’ pregame speech was picked up by the media

“I understand what Dan Lanning was trying to say,” Saban said. “It was probably good for his team to hear in some ways, but it probably wasn’t good for everybody else to hear. That’s always the argument. Where is the access? Where do you draw the line? There’s got to be some times where you can talk to your team and say what you need to say, and it is not for everybody else to hear.”
