Nick Saban sends a strong message about Alabama football’s NIL future

Nick Saban points to a drill at Alabama practice

Nick Saban delivered a message Wednesday about how Alabama plans to use name, image and likeness moving forward.

Saban has discussed his feelings about NIL on multiple occasions. With not a lot of strict rules in place to govern how collegiate athletic programs use NIL, Saban and Alabama plan to adapt to ‘compete’ no matter what the circumstances are.

The Alabama head coach decided to reveal his feelings about the current state of NIL in college football when he was asked had a recruit requested money to visit.

“Not that I know of,” answered Saban. “I don’t know of anybody that’s asked us for that. But look, name, image and likeness is not really name, image and likeness. I think we all understand what it’s become and what we allowed it to become. I said long ago, and got very criticized for, is this what we want college football to become? So, it’s becoming what it’s becoming. And that’s OK. I mean, we will just adapt and do what we have to do to compet,e whatever the circumstances are. Do I think that it would be judicious to have some guardrails on some things? I think you can figure that one out just as well as anybody else.”
