Former Alabama defensive back, Shyheim Carter shed tears after his NFL debut on Sunday.
Carter currently plays for the Tennessee Titans.
He went undrafted in 2020 after playing four years years at Alabama. He finished his career with the Crimson Tide with 100 total tackles and three interceptions. After stints with multiple NFL teams, the former Alabama defensive back had yet to play a regular season NFL game before last Sunday.
Carter’s first game was against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he finished with one tackle after playing 11 snaps.
“It was a fun experience working hard and staying down to be able to get this opportunity,” Carter said , according to TenneseeTitans.com. “Having coaches and players to go out there and trust me to get the job done and it being my NFL debut, it was exciting. I’ve been here for two years, and it has been a grind everyday. I come in to work everyday not knowing if I’m going to be elevated or released, so I come in with the mindset that I’m being evaluated and work hard. A lot of the guys in the DB room knew this was my first game, and they were tellling me how proud they were and those words went a long way. A few tears were shedded. It was just surreal just seeing God work, seeing him unfold everything. It just brought tears of joy and put a big smile on my face.”
Carter and the Titans take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
