Alabama had another new look on the offensive line when the unit took the field against Texas A&M on Saturday.
Darrian Dalcourt, who had started the first five games of the year for the Crimson Tide, was not on the field as redshirt sophomore Jaedan Roberts got the start instead.
Following the 26-20 win over the Aggies, head coach Nick Saban explained that Dalcourt had been dealing with a shoulder issue throughout the week which hindered his play and is why Roberts got the look instead. Despite some issues from the Texas A&M front, Saban thought Roberts had played well.
“Obviously we had a tough time running the ball,” Saban said. “But they (brought) lots of pressure, which we were able to take advantage of making explosive plays down the field. It’s hard for me to say how he played, but Dalcourt had a little shoulder problem, so he was struggling a little bit. I thought (Roberts) went in and did a pretty good job.”
Yards were difficult to come by on the ground as the Crimson Tide rushed for just 23 yards on 26 carries as a team and allowed six sacks and three quarterback hits. The unit also added eight presnap penalties on the day, harming several key third-down situations.
It wasn’t glamourous but the offensive line did well enough for Jalen Milroe to connect on a number of passes to wide receiver Jermaine Burton for the team to leave Kyle Field with the win.
Alabama will now turn its attention to Arkansas for its homecoming game next Saturday, Oct. 14 with kickoff slated for 11 a.m. CT with ESPN on the call.
