Alabama freshman OLB Qua Russaw ‘ahead of the game’

Nick Saban gave freshman outside linebacker, Qua Russaw, some shine during his Monday press conference.

Russaw is a former five-star recruit out of Carver-Montgomery High School in Montgomery, Alabama. The in-state product has yet to see playing time this season, but Saban feels he is ahead of the other freshman outside linebackers at this point in time.

Saban discussed Russaw when asked about Keon Keeley and Yhonzae Pierre during his Monday press conference.

“Both of those guys (Keeley and Pierre) came in the fall,” Saban said. “We only had four guys that came in the fall and because those guys weren’t here in the spring, they had to try to catch up in the summer. I think their learning curve has been a lot greater. We’re pleased with the progress that they’re making, but it’s hard to get them enough reps at this time of the year to try to get them where they need to be, so that they could make a contribution. I think Russaw was here earlier. So, he’s a little bit ahead of the game.”

Alabama’s starting outside linebackers, Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell, have made some big plays this season along with veteran linebacker, Quandarrius Robinson. It is unclear when Russaw will get an opportunity to see the field, but he seems to be headed in the right direction with praise from Saban as he continues to grind in practice.
