Does Nick Saban smoke a cigar after Alabama defeats Tennessee?

Alabama head coach Nick Saban doing an interview versus Tennessee

Nick Saban has defeated the Tennessee Vols 15 times as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, but he does not fully take part in the tradition of smoking a cigar after defeating Tennessee.

For many years, it’s been a tradition for the winning team, players, coaches and fans to smoke cigars after the Alabama and Tennessee game. This tradition started many years ago when Tennessee alumnus, Jim Goostree,  became an Alabama athletic trainer and danced with a cigar after Alabama dominated Tennessee 34-3 at Legion Field in Birmingham in  1961.

Coach Saban discuss the tradition Wednesday during his SEC Coaches teleconference and how he participates in it.

“I don’t smoke, so I just kind of chew on one for a little bit,” Saban said.

Alabama is set to face Tennessee Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
