ESPN’s college football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit recently gave his updated take on whether Alabama and Georgia both can make the College Football Playoff this season.
The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide are still in a position to possibly make the playoff. Georgia is undefeated, and the Crimson Tide are 7-1 and undefeated in the SEC. With other conferences having quality playoff contenders, Herbstreit feels it is unlikely the SEC will get two teams in the playoff.
“I think it’s more likely that neither team will make than they both make it,” Herbstreit said. “Now, logic says if Bama and Georgia win out and Bama were to beat them, Boog (Booger McFarland) laid it out perfectly. In the past when we’ve had these two teams from one conference, it’s because of what’s happened in the Big 12, the Pac-12 and the ACC. Those conferences look strong right now. So, I don’t know if anybody is going to get two in, so if I had to play the game, I’d say it’s more likely that neither will make it than both make it.”
Alabama is off this week. They return to action on Nov. 4 when they take on LSU.
