Carolina is no longer winless in the National Football League.
Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall selection from the NFL Draft, guided the Panthers to its first victory of the season in Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans. Young battled his former Alabama teammate, Will Anderson Jr., and his contemporary — CJ Stroud — on a big stage. The first six games were frustrating for Young, but he got the Panthers over its first hurdle. He completed 22 of 31 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in a 15-13 victory for Carolina.
Young led the Panthers on a huge two-minute drive in the fourth quarter to win on a last-second field goal.
Frank Reich, Panthers head coach, gets his first victory with his No. 1 draft choice. He knows the potential this franchise has with Young at quarterback, but he also knows Young needs help.
The California native became the first Crimson Tide quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in 2021.
As a former five-star, he helped Alabama win a College Football Playoff National Championship and two Southeastern Conference Championships.
