Nick Saban discussed some mistakes he feels Alabama football can not afford to make against LSU’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels, during his Monday press conference.
Daniels presents a threat to the Crimson Tide with his ability to be a weapon with his arm and feet.
The California native has thrown for 2,573 yards and rushed for another 531 yards this season. He led the Tigers to a win over Alabama last season when he came up big in overtime to defeat the Tide. Daniels rushed for 95 yards against Alabama in the win, and Saban feels the Tide can not let him do the same thing Saturday.
“He made a couple plays on quarterback draws, but some of them were not designed quarterback draws,” Saban said. “Two of his long runs in the game in critical situations came on bust up front in terms of gap control, and he just saw it and took off running. So, it looked like a quarterback draw, but I don’t really think it was a design quarterback draw. They do have design quarterback draws. It was a zone option play that he scored on us an overtime, 25-yard run, another mistake that we made in run support and adjusting to motions. So, those are the kind of things that you can not afford to make those kind of mistakes when you’re playing against a quarterback like this who basically is a great passer but also have triple option type plays in the running game to get him on the perimeter…You got to have the right guys trying to get him on the ground.”
The Crimson Tide is set to face the Tigers Saturday, Nov. 4 with kickoff set for 6:45 p.m. CST.
